As the tiling and finishes around the pool are main part of the business at this stage – we wanted the logo to focus on the hard surfaces, rather than give an impression that it was purely a landscaping company. The client brief included the prompts of a stylized wave or ripple to symbolize water – representing the pool aspect, and a subtle touch of a geometric pattern in the wave to indicate the tiling side of the business.
Our belief is that strong logos are usually simple logos. Often deceptively simple, as more thinking than you might imagine can go into the most minimalist designs.
So for Central Poolscapes, we wanted to pare the idea of water and tiling down to the most basic of visual references:
With those two simple ideas, we set about brainstorming how we could combine the two.
For the tile shape, we set it on an angle to represent the laying of tiles. By locking the water graphics inside this shape we have a strong, succinct brand mark that represents these two aspects.
The client provided a selection of images that had a colour palette they liked. It was important to them that earthy greens and moody blues were used. The green represents the landscaping side of the company that, although not the main focus, may be expanded on and included in projects. This will be used sparingly throughout marketing material – as blue is a more appropriate colour for pools; showing freshness and clarity.
The font is very bold and masculine. It portrays strength and a sense of structure.
The stylised letter ‘R’ (which repeats this angled shape) means that even without an icon – this is a recognisable and unique word-mark.
