E-Commerce Website Design - Pembroke Pâtisserie

When Pembroke Pâtisserie approached us for a full website redesign, we saw an exciting opportunity to elevate their online presence and align it more closely with their evolving brand.

As one of Wanaka’s most beloved artisan bakeries (and one of our first ever clients!), Pembroke Patisserie is known for its French-style pastries, handcrafted breads, rich cakes, and beautifully curated gift boxes. Their reputation has always been strong –  but their website no longer reflected the warmth, sophistication, or flexibility of the brand, as well the evolution of it being less about the owners, and more about the experience. Our goal was to create a digital experience that showcased their craftsmanship, supported their online shop, and provided a future-ready foundation for growth.

We began by moving the website to a more modern and flexible theme. This allowed us to restructure the content in a way that was intuitive for visitors.

The new layout supports richer page designs, clearer navigation, better mobile design, and a more dynamic shopping experience. Categories such as pastries, breads, cakes, and gift boxes are now easier to browse, while seasonal promotions – like Christmas specials – can be highlighted quickly and beautifully. The flexible new framework ensures that Pembroke Pâtisserie can continue to expand their offerings without needing another major overhaul in the future.

A key part of this redesign was incorporating Pembroke Pâtisserie’s updated brand colour: a rich, elegant dark green. This shade now anchors the site and appears throughout buttons, headings, accents and interactive elements, giving the entire experience a cohesive and elevated feel. The dark green offers a sense of timelessness and craftsmanship, and reflects the tones found inside their café environment. By applying this colour consistently, we strengthened brand recognition and created a digital aesthetic that reflects the bakery’s artisanal values.

Imagery played an essential role in the new design. Pembroke Pâtisserie ’s pastries and cakes are visually stunning, so we gave the photography room to shine. Clean spacing, generous margins, and a simple visual hierarchy help the products speak for themselves. High-quality images are now central to product pages and featured sections, making it easier for customers to see exactly what they’re ordering. The homepage was re-designed to highlight hero products, special announcements, and seasonal offerings in a way that feels both curated and inviting.

Throughout the redesign process, we focused on improving user experience. The navigation is clearer, the ordering flow is more intuitive, and key messages – such as pre-order reminders or holiday cut-offs – are easier to spot, as well as easier to implement, with pop-ups integrated more seamlessly into the new theme. The new structure guides visitors smoothly from browsing to purchasing, reducing friction and ultimately supporting more conversions.

Whether someone is ordering a cake for a special occasion or picking up pastries for the weekend, the website now feels easy to use, responsive, and aligned with customer expectations.
